A York Engagement Shoot
I absolutely loved Sam and Hayley’s idea for their York engagement shoot! We revisited the place closest to their hearts and where they first met; York. We toured the city uncovering the most meaningful places to them, where Hayley lived at uni and where Sam came to visit her, where they first met and so much more! I asked them to fill in a little questionnaire so Hayley and Sam can tell their story in the best way possible!
I can’t wait to shoot their wedding in 2019! Based in Sheffield, with their own unique spin and I have no doubt it will be filled with family, friends and loads of laughter!
How did you two meet?
We actually started talking online through a blog site at first! And that progressed to video chatting and messaging, until we decided to meet up. Then we met in York where I went to university, and we’ve been together ever since.
Where was your first date and what did you do?
We went out for a few drinks in York. We got quite merry on Evil Eye cocktails, and spent quite a bit of time in the student union. Although we technically already knew each other, we first met properly whilst crossing the road on the way from the train station and that really sticks in our memory.
How did he propose?
It was New Year’s Eve, Sam was very very drunk and was whispering with his Mum (it made me paranoid!). The next thing I knew he disappeared for about half an hour, and when he came back, he was nervous. He then got down on one knee in front of everybody at the party and asked me to marry him, and then presented me with a ring made from post-it notes (as he couldn’t find his mums engagement ring that he’d disappeared to get!) I still have the ring, obviously!
What are your favourite things to do together?
We mostly spend time with our 2 little girls, but if we have the time/money/energy we like going to watch the ice hockey or going out for some food! That, or we just sit in silence and enjoy the peace and quiet once the girls are in bed. The joys of parenthood.
What made you choose York for your engagement shoot?
It’s where we began, and we have lots of memories there, as you will have seen/heard as we were wandering around reminiscing.
Any advice for couples planning their wedding?
It doesn’t need to be extravagant, as long as you’re both there mentally and physically that’s all that matters in the end.
